Over Used and Under Appreciated

The internet is clearly over used and I'm sure not appreciated.  We log on everyday and assume it will turn on and with one, two clicks we are at our information destination. We gather the information we need, we communicate to our friends, family, strangers and either have laughs, sad moments or get angry. Regardless of why we get on the internet we don't appreciate it and we over use it.

The history of the internet was first recorded back in 1962. J.C.R. Licklider of MIT recorded the first series of memos discussing his "Galactic Network" concept. He quickly envisioned an interconnection of computers which everyone could access data from any site.

The Web browser was invented in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee. A software engineer at CERN, a large physics laboratory in Switzerland. He pitched the WWW idea and it was denied. By 1990 he was able to get it up and going and by 1993 it was introduced to the public. It definitely has changed our world on how we communicate.

Communicating on the internet is almost endless. You can reach a neighbor on your street or a loved one in another country with no problems via the internet with in seconds. The 10 most popular ways to communicate are: email, instant messaging, chat room, social networking, forums, dating sites, blogs, audio conferencing, video conferencing, or VoIP. I have and do use most of these ways to communicate with others. I'm old enough to remember using the telephone and besides writing a letter, it was the only way to communicate with friends and family when I was a child. Things have truly changed in the past 30 years.

E-commerce and M-commerce are a way to buy and sell via the internet or a mobile device. The difference is that E-commerce is buying and selling over the internet while M-commerce is buying and selling over a mobile device via a satellite. M-commerce can be more costly as well. M-commerce is something I use weekly. I make purchases for food, clothing, entertainment, educational items etc. It has made life in my household a lot easier.

As you can see the internet has become a way of life. Our kids and their kids and so forth have it way to easy. Wondering what is next? I couldn't even imagine at this point. The possibilities are endless. So on that note learn to appreciate the internet and all it can do for you. Don't over use it because at the end of the day face to face communication is the best and healthiest way to communicate with your friends and family.
